Finca Bosque Lya, located on the foothills of the Ilamatepec Volcano in the Apaneca Mountain range of western El Salvador, is a renowned 96-hectare coffee farm, 64 of which are dedicated to coffee production while the rest remains natural rainforest. The farm, established in 1932 and named after the owner’s daughter, Lya, is famous for winning first place in the 2004 Cup of Excellence. It is celebrated not only for its high-quality coffee but also for its stunning landscape, abundant wildlife, and biodiversity, featuring shade trees, rare orchids, and numerous bird and mammal species.
The farm primarily grows Bourbon coffee varieties, with a range of altitudes between 1,473 to 1,650 meters that contribute to the coffee's complexity, sweetness, and lively flavours. The coffee cherries are handpicked, sorted, and processed at the El Borbollon mill using a meticulous method that includes depulping, fermentation, and extended drying to enhance flavor nuances. The beans are then hand-sorted by a team of skilled women to ensure minimal defects before being packed for export. Sustainability and job preservation are key aspects of the farm's operations, with efforts to recycle water and use composted cherry pulp as fertilizer.
